A Remote Island, Mirror of a Global Crisis

Lost in the South Pacific, Henderson Island is one of the most isolated places on Earth. Listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site for its unique biodiversity, it has paradoxically become a symbol of global plastic pollution. Ocean currents carry tons of waste to its shores, turning this remote paradise into a striking reminder that no place on the planet is spared.

Restoring a World Heritage Treasure

Plastic Odyssey and UNESCO joined forces to make Henderson the first Marine Restoration Mission. The goal: clean up, document, and understand the scale of plastic pollution in such a pristine ecosystem. On site, teams collected and analyzed thousands of pieces of debris while raising global awareness about ocean conservation. A milestone mission to protect and restore the world’s natural heritage.

Project Timelime

The cleanup of Henderson Island was the first Impossible Cleanup organised by Plastic Odyssey team. Over nine tons of plastic waste were removed from the island.
